Lotus Technical Services is excited to announce it's been chosen by a global pharmaceutical giant to play a key role in launching onto the EU market.

The Sligo firm has won a contract to ensure an upgraded production line in the pharmaceutical company's Limerick plant is in line with European Safety Standards.

Lotus Technical Services specialises in helping manufacturers reach the strict standards required to secure a CE marking, without which no firm can sell their product in the EU market.

LTS Operations Manager Declan Hennessy explains: "If you sell a product such as piece of manufacturing equipment and place it into a production line in the EU, it must have a CE mark to ensure you comply with all the legal requirements for that product . That's where we come in. We will look after the CE marking aspect of any upgraded production line. If you don't have this CE marking, you can't sell in Europe".

The Sligo company has a high level of expertise in translating new EU directives on safety for CE markings to a client's plant on the ground. "With new directives on safety arriving from Europe each year, we're constantly growing our expertise and knowledge" said Mr Hennessy.

Lotus Technical Services will be working in a high volume processing plant which is very highly automated for a fast throughput. “Our client is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and healthcare products companies. It produces a specialised product at its plant in Limerick and is currently upgrading and retro-fitting its state-of-the-art production line”said Mr Hennessy.

The contract is currently on schedule for successful completion: "It's our first time to work with this client at their plant and we're really looking forward to building on the existing good relationship between our two firms " he added.

On December 29 2009 the new EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) came into effect in Europe. It's a crucial part of regulating the free circulation of machinery within the European Union and other European countries. However, its importance is widely underestimated by machinery manufacturers in the rest of the world. Machinery that does not meet the requirements of the directive cannot be sold in the EU and violations can lead to expensive delays in placing the machinery on the market as well as prosecutions for the organisation who puts non-compliant equipment into service.
"The new directive is even more rigorous and aims to reduce the number of accidents relating to machines by setting stricter safety standards" said Declan Hennessy.
"Lotus Technical Services is already working hard to guarantee our client meets all those requirements at home and across Europe".
